Fish products are the most popular imported seafood category in China. In the first quarter of this year, the import volume of frozen fish in China increased by 15% to 500000 tons year-on-year, accounting for nearly 50% of the national seafood import volume.
According to data released by FCC Food, China's frozen fish imports increased by 21.1% to 7.57 billion yuan, accounting for 25% of the total imports. However, China's purchase of Vietnamese Basha fish has decreased by 17.8%, to approximately 45000 tons. Importers are less willing to increase their purchases, mainly due to existing inventory, market demand, and price fluctuations. In the first quarter of this year, the export value of products from the South China Sea to China decreased by 22% to 143 million US dollars, and the total export value decreased by 35% to 422 million US dollars. The export value of products from the South China Sea to the United States and Brazil decreased by 64% and 40%, respectively.
