The supply of Japanese scallops to Asian regions such as China remains stable

In March of this year, exports of Japanese scallops (mainly frozen scallops) to the United States and the European Union decreased, but exports to Asian regions such as Hong Kong, China remained stable. The number of shelled scallops sold from Japan to China has decreased, while the number of ripe scallops has increased. At the same time, the number of fresh scallops sold to Korea also shows an increasing trend.

In March, Japan exported 1082 tons of frozen shellless scallops, a year-on-year decrease of 6%. The export value was 3 billion yen (approximately 21.91 million US dollars), a year-on-year decrease of 2%. The average export unit price was 2796 yen (approximately 20.39 US dollars) per kilogram, a year-on-year increase of 4%. The export volume of frozen shellless scallops to the United States decreased by 44% to 163 tons, and the export volume to the European Union decreased by 43% to 75 tons. Japan's exports of frozen shellless scallops to the United States have decreased for the third consecutive month, while exports to Hong Kong, China have continued to increase for two consecutive months. In March, exports doubled month on month, reaching 100 tons. The export volume of frozen scallops with shells from Japan was 7474 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9%, with an export value of 3.359 billion yen (approximately 24.49 million US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 16%. The average export unit price was 449 yen per kilogram (approximately 3.27 US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 27%. Exports to China have decreased for three consecutive months, with an export volume of 7188 tons in March, a decrease of 23%.

Among the finished scallops, including dried scallops, the export volume in March was 330 tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.2 times, with an export value of 1.759 billion yen (approximately 12.81 million US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 5.7 times, and an average export price of 5329 yen (approximately 38.83 US dollars) per kilogram. Hong Kong, China is the main purchasing area, with an export volume of 128 tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.2 times. These products are mainly supplied to South Korea. The export volume to South Korea increased by 26% to 1287 tons, the export volume to Hong Kong, China increased by 3.2 times to 205 tons, and the supply volume to Chinese Mainland decreased by 43% to 110 tons, which is the 18th consecutive month of decline.
