Japan's Hokkaido surimi production decreased for four consecutive months

According to the latest data of the National Surimi Association of Japan, Hokkaido's frozen surimi production in December 2022 was 967 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 48%, which is the fourth consecutive month of decline. Winter raw fish mainly come from Funka Bay, Hokkaido, but the catch is less than half of the same period last year, resulting in a 20% reduction in the total production of Hokkaido, about 19000 tons.

Atka mackerel surimi decreased by 83% to 17 tons, which was also a decline for four consecutive months. The import volume of Japan's Otaru was 700 tons, equivalent to half of the same period last year. The output of other surimi was zero, compared with 6 tons last year. In December last year, the production of Hokkaido surimi decreased by 32% to 900 tons year-on-year, and the inventory at the end of December was 822 tons, a decrease of 47%, including 710 tons of Alaska cod surimi, a decrease of 42%; The output of multi-line fish surimi was 64 tons, down 79%.
