Thailand's shrimp production this year is unchanged from last year's 280,000 tonnes, and exports are estimated at around 120,000 tonnes worth 50 billion baht, which is down from the previous estimate of 144,113 tonnes and 50.9 billion baht earnings. Ekapoj Yodpinit, president of the Thai Shrimp Association, pointed out that the decline in Thai shrimp exports this year is directly related to low shrimp prices and rising production costs, with some farmers suspending their farming activities due to high production costs, while diseases and unpredictable weather conditions are also the main reasons for the decline in farmed shrimp production.
Production is expected to account for 33 percent of this year's total production in the southern region of Thailand, 25 percent in the eastern region, 20 percent in the southern part of the Andaman coast, 10 percent in the southern part of the Gulf of Thailand and 12 percent in the central region.
