Seafood lovers in Australia are enjoying abundant supplies and lower prices as the year-end holidays approach. Prices for some popular seafood, including prawns and rock lobsters, have dropped by 50 percent year-on-year. At two of Australia's largest supermarket chains, raw prawns are selling for A$18 (about US$12) per kilogram.
Aptus Seafoods, based in South Melbourne, Australia, is currently selling fresh medium-sized prawns for A$30 to A$35 (about US$20 to US$23) per kilogram and prawns for A$40 to A$50 (about US$26 to US$33) per kilogram. Last year, prawns were sold for A$60 to A$65 (about US$39 to US$43) per kilogram. Prawns, lobsters and oysters are the three most popular categories in Australia.
